PAUL NORRIS - ARTICULATE LIGHT - 2012 NEW ALBUM RELEASE

"Apart from the challenge recording some of my own compositions it's also been great fun to play and record some popular tunes we've grown up listening to."

ZARITA - ( + EXTENDED MIX SINGLE):
"'Zarita' is a girl's name, derived from Sarah. It also means 'princess' in Spanish. An original tune and the album's opening track. A big sound with a lot of drums and percussion with some 'attitude' guitar playing!"

BEATLES COVER - AND I LOVE HER:
"In the recent documentary 'Living in the Material World', Paul McCartney said fellow Beatle George Harrison's Spanish guitar and riff in "And I Lover Her" really made the song. It's always been one of my favourites."

HER LOVING EYES - ( + RADIO MIX SINGLE):
"Her Loving Eyes" came out of the scenario where you open up your wallet and look at a picture of your girlfriend - and you realise you are homesick! The radio mix single has synth-horns added not heard on the album track version."

TITLE TRACK - ARTICULATE LIGHT:
"Articulate Light" was a solo guitar warm-up piece I made up and people would comment they really liked it. Then they would ask what was it called. It had no official title. Eventually I expanded it and it became the new album's title track with ensemble strings added."

CARLOS SANTANA COVER - EUROPA:
"'Europa' is one of Carlos Santana's signature instrumental songs, and has a wonderful structure that stands the test of time. To me this has always been a very clever and mysterious tune. My version has a 'bandido' feel about it."

LED ZEPPELIN COVER - STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN:
"'Stairway To Heaven' is one of Led Zeppelin's widest reaching songs. It is considerd a rock classic but to me the structure of it is also jazz, folk and classical as well. I imagined guitarist John Williams was playing it instead of Jimmy Page. So for my recording of it I played two guitars and added solo and ensemble strings."

STING COVER - FRAGILE - (+ EXTENDED MIX SINGLE):
"I think people recognise Sting's song 'Fragile' with the same feeling they regard John Lennon's 'Imagine'. Both tunes have highly empathetic lyrics and great original melodies. When I saw Sting play 'Fragile' in concert he accompanies himself on nylon string guitar. I've always loved that song, and that sound. For my cover version I have changed the groove, created slightly different sound texture and extended the improvisation around the melody." - PN.
